Hi all. I’m about to pull my hair out and haven’t been able to find the information I need.

I have a Samsung UN70TU700DBXZA 70” Smart TV purchased new in 2021. My Sonos setup is a Playbar > Connect Amp > Surrounds via the optical output on the TV. I know this is older equipment but haven’t had issues.

At some point I had this working on my previous older Samsung that I shattered when I last moved, but I’m not sure what’s happening this time. My current TV is a newer model. My Apple TV and PS4 are set to output DD5.1. On the Sonos App I can see the Playbar is receiving Stereo PCM. If I run an app like Netflix on the smart TV itself the Playbar switches to receiving Dolby Digital 5.1 over the optical cable. It seems the TV does output DD but not from the HDMI inputs. The TV menu only offers “PCM”, “Auto”, and “Pass-Through” - although Pass-Through is greyed out. I have tried multiple HDMI cables from my devices to the TV. I have ensured my external devices are set to Dolby Digital. Is this a lost cause? I do have a memory of this working properly when I first set up the TV.

I’m looking at audio extractors but obviously that would render any use of the smart tv apps outputting sound.

Alright, update. Updated the PS4 and checked the audio. It’s now outputting Dolby Digital 5.1 according to the Sonos app. Cable TV receiver is showing as Dolby Digital 2.0 or 5.1 depending on the channel.

This appears to be an Apple TV OS issue. Change Format is set to “On” and “Dolby Digital 5.1” is set. Sonos just shows “Stereo PCM” - however, if I run a Surround Sound Test video on YouTube, Sonos app shows “Dolby Digital 5.1” - Netflix, Prime, Plex, Hulu, etc, all showing Stereo PCM.
