My setup:

Sonos beam 2 → connected to hdmi eArc on TCL tv
Apple tv → connected to normal HDMI
Cec enabled

If the sound format is set to Dolby atmos (as it is by default) on my apple TV, there is no sound from the speakers. If I change it to Dolby digital 5.1 it works (although, sometimes it suddenly disappears and I have to change the sound format back and forth again to make it work).

  1. Does anyone know how to make the Beam output dolby atmos from apple tv?
  2. Does anyone else have problem with the sound suddenly stop working when the Beam is connected to an apple tv?

Try setting your TVs audio to passthrough. The Apple TV will take care of the Dolby Atmos audio.

Thanks! I changed the TVs audio to passthrough and it made it play Atmos, but there seems to be a new problem.

If I view Dolby Atmos content (Hbo max) and then change to another app without atmos (Youtube), the speakers are muted. Then suddenly, the speakers starts working in Youtube, but then its muted when I go back til watch atmos content.

It seems to struggle with changing between different formats.

On the Apple TV, do you have the audio settings set to:

change format -Off

Dolby atmos - on

I do.

I’ve tried to change it to Dolby Digital 5.1. This almost got rid of the problem with audio suddenly disappearing, but it would still happen occasionally. And of course no Dolby Atmos.

This is a well known regression with, I think, tvOS 18.
