No sound from Playbar after connecting to new Bravia 8 XR80 using Optical Audio adapter connected to eArc HDMI port on TV.

I think you’re using the optical adapter wrong. It takes an optical signal, and changes it to an ARC signal, not the other way around.

Does your new Sony Bravia not have an optical port? If not, you may need to strip the audio off using a fairly inexpensive HDMI switch with an optical out, but that will preclude using any ‘apps’ in the TV.

Yep, you're right.  What i thought wasn't the optical port on the TV really was.  Thank you.

Heh. They do appear, sometimes, to be oddly shaped and different ports…and are, occasionally, on much older TV sets. It’s a mistake I’ve made, often enough…but generally, you’re looking at the back of the TV once, to hook things up. It’s not a big priority after that.

I recommend using the TV’s TOSLINK (optical) output. Most HDMI adapters will not support audio from the TV’s HDMI-ARC or HDMI-eARC port.
