New TV with existing sonos

I have an existing Sonos system that worked fine with my older Samsung TV.   I recently replaced the TV with another Samsung.   When I try to use the optical connection (one end in the TV and the other into the soundbar as with the other TV), all I get is chattering with nothing intelligible.  It doesn't matter if it is DISH, Netflix or Amazon.  Shouldn't it just work by plugging it in the same way?

Not necessarily, you’d likely need to adjust the audio settings on the TV set, or possibly anything feeding the TV set.

Remember, the maximum that can be sent across an optical connection to a Sonos soundbar is Dolby Digital. You’ll likely need to limit the TV set so it is only sending a Dolby Digital signal out through that digital optical output.
