Question

Move 2 as rear surround

Why do my Move2 not work like my erra 300 surrounds. I get a lot of dialog that should come from the center through the Move2 pair. I’m using E Arc and Atmos. My other system of the arc ultra, sub 4 and rear erra 300 works perfect.

Sounds odd. If you’re getting ‘center’ dialog, it sounds more like you’ve grouped them with your soundbar, and they aren’t surrounds.

On the other hand, you also mention Era 300s as surrounds. Any Sonos soundbar can only have a single set of surrounds, not multiple sets. Are you expecting a second set of surrounds while the first already exists?

I have 2 systems. Home is the system with the era 300. The vacation home I’m using move2 as surround and they are paired to the arc ultra as surround. I found this info.

Move 2 does not have the Era 300’s dedicated Atmos driver array. So even though your Arc Ultra is receiving Dolby Atmos over eARC, the Move 2s cannot reproduce the rear Atmos field the same way your Era 300s do.

The Era 300 are the only sonos speaker (besides soundbars) that supports Atmos. I’m not sure if that’s what you are expecting from the Move 2s as surrounds.

Since you hear center sounds from the rears, it does sound like you’ve grouped them - you can only use Move 2’s as surrounds since a couple of weeks. When did you set them up as surrounds?

Did you use this method? https://www.sonos.com/en/blog/sonos-portable-speakers-as-surround-sound

No matter what, the number of drivers (cones? Speakers? Coils? Ribbons?) in the Move 2 are not in any way equal to the number in the Era 300, so they certainly won’t sound the ‘same’. But if you’re getting ‘center channel’ voices, I will stand by my and @106rallye ‘s suggestion, that they’re ‘grouped’ rather than set up as surrounds.

Of course, if there are usability issues, you probably should submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of reproducing the issue, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here. There really isn’t anything we in the public can do, other than point to normal usage.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

They are certainly not grouped. They are recognized as surrounds. It’s the first iteration of firmware so maybe teething pains. Just curious if any other folks are experiencing this.

If you’re getting center channel voices in the surrounds, that’s certainly an issue. It could be with the source, or the Sonos. I’d certainly submit that diagnostic and call in.
