missing atmos for beam 2 on Sony TV

I’d be checking the audio settings on the Apple TV. It has the capability to move everything from Atmos to Dolby Digital.

That being said, you may find you like Dolby Digital on the Beam better than Atmos. The Beam doesn’t have the dedicated speakers to fire upward to create the true Atmos effect, unlike the Arc and Arc Ultra…but you should try it to see. Depending on your surrounds as well, you may find you like it quite well. 

Oh…it does depend, if memory serves, as to which Apple TV you have. My game just ended, let me check.

I have an Apple TV 4K, model A2843, running tvOS 26.6

Under Apple’s settings, I go to Video and Audio, then scroll down to Audio, and click on Audio Format. In that area, I have Auto (Recommended) selected, then under Spatial Audio, I have Dolby Atmos selected, and under HDMI output, I have Continuous Audio Connection turned off. 
 

Older versions (if memory serves, two versions before this one) of the Apple TV won’t do Atmos (Apple uses MAT encoding for Atmos, which requires an eARC connection, not an ARC connection).

Can you confirm which Apple TV and OS, along with the audio settings you have?

Also, many streaming companies, like Hulu and others, don’t stream in Atmos, just Dolby Digital, due to bandwidth costs, so make sure your test is a recent movie on Apple TV that claims Atmos. There are lots of people who try to use YouTube, where anything uploaded can ‘claim’ anything, but is automatically reduced due to bandwidth costs.
