LPCM 7.1 with Apple TV, SONOS Arc Ultra and Samsung TV

I have a few movies rips that have an Atmos 5.1 eAC3 track and a 7.1 eAC3 track.
I’m using Infuse on an Apple TV 4K. Samsung Frame 2024 and an Arc Ultra based setup.

When I choose the Atmos track everything works as intended. I see the logo in the SONOS app. But when I choose the 7.1 track, it gets « downgraded » to stereo PCM as shown in the app.

I’m wondering if it’s a bug? A configuration thing? An incompatibility? Anyw views?

Thanks!

Hello Valmore, welcome back!

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble listening to your Infuse uploaded 7.1 track via Apple TV 4K on your Sonos Arc Ultra Home Theater setup.

I did a little research, also found your post in the megathread in the Firecore Community.

On the following Reddit thread a few people realized that it’s a limitation on their TV and they were able to figure it out by connecting a Xbox Series X console, although I do not have the information or the steps they took to get into that conclusion.

There are too many variables and different devices involved in this chain to figure out what exactly goes wrong. The only way would be to add one by one the components and see where the error (or downgrade in this case) lies.

Have a look at our blog article How to Get 5.1 and 7.1 Surround Sound with Your Sonos System and more specifically the below:

Some content, especially music, will default to stereo playback through your surround sound system, so you’ll experience stereo sound from both the front and back of the room.

If you have Beam (Gen 2), Arc or Arc Ultra you can enjoy a more immersive spatial audio experience on your system by listening to Dolby Atmos Music from Apple Music and Amazon Music Unlimited.

If possible or available to you, you can try Dolby Atmos Music from Apple Music or Amazon Music Unlimited, although you’ve already confirmed to be able to play your 5.1 Atmos track.

I hope this helps.

Hi! Thanks for that. Yes I have Atmos working fine. Just trying to figure out where the incompatibility lies…

It does seem like Samsung TVs are unable to pass through 7.1 LPCM…
