Is the Trueplay necessary?

Hi community, lately I acquired a brand new Beam Gen 2 for obtain (finally) Dolby Atmos but when I listen to it (and listening tests) I noticed that the virtualized height channels sounds like is there only a filter, I know that is a bit complex to do this notice life-like but the only solution I viewed was, to do a trueplay tuning?

My room isn’t the best but I expected more, so I’m also asking for advices and others experiences to not refund it, I really like to listen Atmos well but I don’t have an iPhone so, if it is very necessary I’ll try to obtain one.

Thank you for any advice and sorry if my grammar isn’t the best :)

Here’s my take on purchasing two Era 300’s at $958_USD or an Arc Ultra at $1099_USD to improve the Dolby Atmos experience.

The Arc Ultra is the processor for all audio codecs sending only specific data to the surrounds be they Era 300’s or Era 100’s. My point being that I would rather improve the central processing unit for movies and music (Arc Ultra vs Beam 2) vs only a limited stream for surround (Era 300).

While the Era 300’s are better than Era 100’s for surrounds in a Sonos Dolby Atmos setup the biggest improvement in MHO would be the Arc Ultra even with Era 100’s as surrounds.

Movies, volume really varies, 20 for some, 45 for others. Talking heads usually 25 to 30.

300s for music, as a Pair, not a Bonded HT Room are amazing. A Five Pair might be a bit better at stereo. As surrounds the 300s / Arc set, with both feeding height really shines, with only a Beam 2 I'd expect a lot less with the absence of the front height channel.

The Beam 1 and Beam 2 are great speakers but for a big room, or a distant seating positions you just can't  beat the wider spacing the Arc gives. We see a lot of requests for an even wider front soundstage but I'm happy with the Arc's for now.

Thank you @AjTrek1. Maybe now I should refund the Beam and buy two Era 300s (they are currently on sale here in Mexico for ~450 usd) and then get the Arc Ultra later :)

Thank you @Stanley_4. Sonos products really are very powerful (it's not that I ever underestimated them), and yes, I do like the sound signature of the Fives, but as you mentioned, Era 300s can provide Dolby Atmos. Thank you both!

Cheers :)

@leo07

Maybe we’re having a language barrier 😂

My suggestion was to NOT buy Era 300’s. They are not going to improve your surround experience greatly with the Beam2. My suggestion was to purchase the Arc Ultra and keep your Era 100’s as the surround speakers.

The picture below is from the Sonos website. That is the combination I’m recommending. You can see for yourself at this link.

When you get to the page in the link you will see other combinations of surrounds picturing the Arc Ultra and Beam2. What you won’t see is a combination picturing the Beam2 and Era 300’s.

I can only make suggestions. At the end-of-the-day it’s your decision (and your money) 😊

Enjoy Your Sonos!!

Hi @AjTrek1, I misunderstood you. Since I listen to music more than I watch movies, and the Era 300s are great for Atmos music, I think I'll buy them first. Then, once I've saved up a bit, I can finally get the Arc Ultra and set the Era 300s as surrounds to get the best experience. The language is a barrier, but I keep learning English :)

Thank you for your patience! :)
