Is it possible to connect Sonos Ray with only one Sonos One device?

Having the Sonos Ray on one side of the sofa (because the beamer is there), does it make sense to buy just one Sonos One for the other side of the sofa? It is just for a relatively small room...

To add surrounds, you need two speakers. You cannot add just one surround.

If you did only have one additional speaker, you could group it with the Ray, however there would be a slight delay/echo when watching tv, although music would be in sync.
