Question about a possible setup with Sonos speakers. I have a Sonos AMP and 2 in-wall architectural speakers. I’m going to plug in the TV to the amp via HDMI. Not going to use a soundbar or a sub. Can I pair 2 Era 100s as rears for surround sound so all four speakees play while using the Sonos setup for TV and for music when not with the TV? Having trouble finding info on this possibility. Maybe it’s not possible with only the one AMP… but thought I’d ask the community. Thanks again!

Yes, that will work. The only thing I can’t remember is if it was possible to set the surrounds to zero volume for music playback.

When I was testing a 4.0 setup I used an Amp + 2 surrounds.

  • HDMI from the TV for watching video with surround sound.
  • Leave the TV off and use the Amp as normal for music.

By default when playing music the Amp produced what Sonos call ambient music, which uses the surrounds as a low volume frequency limited stereo pair playing the same thing as the front pair. There should be settings in the App to control the behaviour for music playback.

  • Music level (only affects the surrounds)
  • Ambient (low volume frequency range limited)
  • Full ( full range, same volume as front pair)
