How do I connect the remote from a Phillips PUS8508 to the Sonos Ray

The TV remote with my TV is an IR remote but also connects to the TV with Bluetooth which is used for voice search and updates. I've been trying to connect it to the Ray so we can control the sound without relying on the app but everytime I attempt to press Vol up 3 times it keeps saying it didn't detect a signal from the TV remote. 

I've tried disabling Bluetooth on the TV, I've tried turning off the lights in the room, turning off the TV and the lights, got a couple meters away and been right up close. Nothing seems to work. The manual for the TV says it's an IR remote which apparently means Sonos is compatible but nothing working. 

Does anyone know of a way to get them to connect that ideally doesn't involve buying a different TV remote. Might have to return this if we have to rely on only the app.

Sorry to hear of the issue you are having with getting your Philips TV remote to work with your Ray soundbar.

I am unfamiliar with the remote, so I’d like to verify that it is in fact transmitting IR codes.

Please open the camera app on your phone and point the camera at the top end of your remote - although humans cannot see the light, your phone probably can pick it up. If you do not see a red light flash through the camera when you press a remote button, then you will likely need to tell the remote to operate in IR mode. Please consult your manual or Philips directly on how to do this. 

My thought is that to save battery, the remote will only use radio or IR, and not both at the same time.

Hi, Yes I had already checked this with my phone camera and can confirm I saw the IR light flashing. My remote uses Bluetooth for voice search and updates it seems but IR for everything else.

However I have seemingly fixed the problem, although a very odd solution. I decided to connect my Chromecast to the TV which I stopped using due to the inbuilt Google TV , and tested that remote. It was detected by the Sonos immediately so was going to go back to using that, but decided to try using the TV remote once more and it just seems to work now and can be detected by the app.

Im assuming its something to do with the Chromecast being able to sync with the TV to control the audio but im not sure that completely explains why the TV remote works even when the Chromecast is not connected to the TV. The TV remote is still a bit spotty so I will probably go back to using the Chromecast remote but at least it now works!

 Probably a stupid question, but is Use IR set to on in the Sonos app?

Yeah it is. I can't set up the TV remote without that setting being on.
