I have an old 2016 Sony LCD that I will be attaching my Arc to. My tv doesn't have an eArc but it does have an Arc hdmi port. Would there be any difference in quality hooking the Arc using the optical adapter as compared to hooking it up via the Arc hdmi? I would like to use that last hdmi for an Xbox.

No difference. Both carry Dolby Digital.
