I have switched the remote to IR mode, but the play bar doesn’t recognise it. Any ideas?

There are quite a few threads that appear to be about Hisense’s implementation of IR commands rolling, which is troublesome, it appears, for Sonos. Try a 2 or 3 second delay between button pushes on the remote. At least, as I recall, that’s the solution given by the Forum moderator. Or try a standard non Hisense remote.
Conversely, I would recommend that you call Sonos Support to discuss it.
When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
