Greetings

Does anyone have a television without any handshake issues with Sonos arc ultra

I am about to upgrade my television and would like some advice to avoid this

I have had very good results from a number of Sony sets.

Even if you get some glitches with the set you choose, almost all can be dealt with.

Thank you. Have been wondering if LG is the only brand without issues as search engines would have me believe

Wondering about all and any brands without handshake issued

Never had a problem with my Samsung sets, through one of them was a big problem with the A/V receiver I replaced with Sonos.

The handshake issues you mention in your handshake ‘hypothesis’, may not be caused by the TV or the Soundbar, but caused by some other device (Set top box, BD player, etc) also plugged into the TVs CEC bus.

Neither my LG or Samsung have had any handshake issues with my Arcs. I’m assuming Sonos wrote their code to CEC specifications, and the TV manufacturers did as well.

Personally I would not allow a recent LG TV in my home because they are extensively monitoring viewing habits, network, WIFi, and speech. The only way to minimize this reporting is to keep the set powered down when not in use. To start your inquiry search for “lg sharing personal data privacy”.

At this writing I have not investigated the reporting habits of other manufacturers.

I’m halfway covered, I don’t talk to myself, and live alone…but that doesn’t stop the extra reported network snooping. I’ll be interested in LG’s response to this. I also don’t use anything beyond Apple TV to drive it, none of the onboard apps, because I’m not interested in any company using my usage statistics in their sales to marketing. That doesn’t, unfortunately, mean that that content isn’t being monitored, mind you, but I distrust the Apple side of things less than others.

You may want to hand me a tin foil hat, too, I’m not sure. Even anonymized, I’m not andious to share my personal info in any way.

You can read LG’s privacy statement in “Cliff Note” form or Legal Brief 😂

I’ll pass, thanks. I suspect they’re already capturing more than necessary via their TV’s….

Doesn’t  make me happy. Had I been aware at the time, I’d have purchased two Samsungs, instead…but honestly, there isn’t much guaranty there, either. Corporations are slippery, and things change, often, in support of profitability.

Sony yes…Samsung a hard no. Had too many issues with Samsung and judging from posts in this community I’d say I’m not alone.

Used to work for Sony for a while…a bit sanguine about them, mostly because of their history of pushing formats that are developed by them, and sometime licensed. The challenge is, there is no company that meets my approval unconditionally. But I kinda wanted to support both brands as needed here on the boards, and honestly, both of the were ‘open boxes’ from Best Buy. Yea, I’m a cheap bastard. But having lost my job, and moving from SoCal to Washington, my options were also circumspect, for obvious reasons.

My several Sony sets don't seem nosey, they aren't triggering my network monitoring tools. The newest one has Android / Google TV as an option but not necessary to use the inputs.

I don't track that sort of thing as a rule but do recall a Visio, couple years back, that went back to the store due to the network activity it was up to.

Yea, Vizio was trying to sell themselves, I think they thought customer data was the way to go. If I recall correctly, they weren’t able to sell to the Chinese, but I think they sold to Walmart. Not sure if they kept up the collection of customer data, but I certainly stopped buying them.

Vizio...the name says it all. They’re watching 😂

Its the modern business model, we want ‘cheap’ tech, they give us ‘cheap’ tech to make profit on our data.

This explains it well, its not just LG:

Hi All

As interesting as this discussion might be, it’s getting a little bit away from the question posted by the author, which was a recommendation for a TV that will not have any issues communicating with a Sonos soundbar.
