I have an LG OLED TV, Google Streaming 4k, HDHomerun 4k, Sonos Beam 2 with 2 play 1 speakers in surround sound.

I had the strangest experience.  I was watch a movie on Disney when a commerical came on (I’m cheap) so I used my LG remote (instead of the Google Streamng remote) to mute the commercial.  (I like the feel of the LG remote and thought I didn’t matter which remote I used.)

The TV went blank for a second and when it came back I had no sound.  When I tried to go to TV speakers sound would play for a second the go silent.

I tried a number of approaches to bring back sound - thinking it was an LG issue or an HDHome run issue.  Finally just unplugged Sonos beam and plugged it back in.  That fixed it.

Strange.  I have retired the LG remote.

Was the LED on the Beam green when you lost sound?

It doesn’t happen often, but when I lose sound using my Sony, unplugging the Sony, rather than the Beam 2, brings it back. And it’s easier for me to reach.

I mean sonos - I don’t have a Sony TV - it’s LG.  And the remote I should have been using is the google streaming 4k - HDHomerun doesn’t have a remote.

Frankly, I’d check them all for any potential firmware/software updates, too. Sounds like the LG stopped sending ARC for a moment, for reasons unknown. Probably to do with the screen blanking out, which still isn’t a Sonos issue.

The challenge is, of course, if it was an issue being sent in the stream you were watching from Disney, there isn’t much you can do. I’d be stunned if it had anything at all to do with a remote control.

Yes, understood. I was just mentioning that it also happens with my Sony TV that occasionally the sound disappears. Maybe not for the same reasons as with your LG, who knows. But no amount of switching from TV speakers and back to Sonos Beam 2 will get the sound back. Unplugging the TV works every time for me.

I actually tried turning off the TV - unplugging the TV - that didn’t work for my issue.  The only solution that worked was to unplug Beam 2.

I mostly posted because it was so odd that the mute button on the TV remote caused the issue - some kind of HDMI handshaking loop between Sonos and the TV.  Very strange.

I have a Sony TV that at times fails to complete the HDMI handshake.  For me I hold down the power button on the Sony remote until Reset appears.  Selecting Reset  works to get the sound back.

I’ve been using a Harmony Companion remote so long, I forgot the original remote did that.
