Feature request: Full stereo mode for stereo tv source

I have a Sonos Arc system, two Era300s, and a Gen3 subwoofer. I'd like to have a button within the surround sound speaker options that allows me to set it to full surround sound mode for TV sources when they're PCM stereo 2.0. Just like with music, this is disabled if it detects a 5.1 source, Atmos, etc. This way, we could play any YouTube content or Spotify music on the TV in full surround sound. It would just need to be added to the Sonos app, and users could enable it. Disabled, it would work the same as it does now.

Thanks!

This exists already: Dolby 2.0 can produce rear surround audio. I hear it when using the F1TV app on my Beam despite audio being sent as 2 channel. Used to be called Pro Logic, its how old stereo VCRs could make surround sound (and Laserdiscs too I think?).

You need to use better sources: Sonos can’t “make up” surround data from plain stereo.

OP, can you clarify a bit?  Are you asking for you home theatre setup to simulate surround audio when the source is 2.0 stereo, are do you want the rear audio channels to just play the identical front left and right channels?  The latter is what happens with non-TV 2 channel audio sources, but you referring to this request as ‘full surround mode’ makes it unclear.

I personally don’t want Sonos to do any simulation of surround or atmos audio, but I would be in favor of an option to stereo on the rear speakers for TV 2.0 stereo sources.  I don’t think I would use it personally, but I can see where that would be a useful speakers for a others.

Yes, I would like to stereo on rear exactly as it does with music source from airplay or in the sonos app. I said “Full” because Sonos call it that way in their app for Music Playback. I would like to have the same option for TV stereo :)

Meh.  Personally, I’m a purist.  I want stereo in stereo, 5.1 in 5.1 and Atmos in Atmos.  It’s why I have two Fives up front for music sources, even though I have a full Arc Ultra, Sub and surrounds in the same room.

As alway, YMMV.

I have the same setup for the main living space.  However, as I think about it more. I would use this feature, to bond 2 amps together (once connected to TV, the other setup in surround configuration) to get full stereo to more that 4 passive speakers in the backyard, where a front stage makes less sense.
