I understand that the Era 300 is not compatible with SonosNet but what is not clear to me is if I have them set as surrounds with an ethernet connected Sonos Arc do they use SonosNet to connect to the Arc or some other wireless connection with the Arc? If it’s SonosNet does that mean I can’t have the Arc connected to Ethernet if I’m using the Era 300 as surrounds?

The surround speakers communicate with the Arc’s private 5GHz radio. So you can use the Era 300s as surrounds even if the Arc is wired with an ethernet cable.

SonosNet is not the system by which surround speakers connect to the ‘front device’, nor is it the same method by which Subs ‘bond’ with their speakers.
