dolby atmos on Beam 2

Hi all

I have just installed a Beam gen 2. I have set my LG tv to allow Dolby Atmos via eArc and I can see from the app that my Beam has a Dolby Atmos input. When I listen to Dolby Atmos content though I can’t seem to hear much difference to be honest. I have also tried Spatial Audio on Apple Music and again can’t really determine any difference.  I maybe expecting too much and it’s early days but I am wondering if my Beam may be faulty. Has anybody got any experience of this?

If you don’t have any surround speakers added you may not hear much difference.  Have you tried playing with the Height setting for spatial audio?

In my experience, the virtual Atmos channels in the Beam Gen 2 don’t add much.  YMMV, but actual up-firing speakers are much more effective.

I have several Beams, all gen 1, and while they are quite good the limitations imposed by the short length on stereo separation is quite apparent when compared to the longer Arc. The Gen 2 Beam faces the same size/sound limitations and as said above also has no up-firing speakers.

I ended up with an Arc in my main room, since upgraded to an Arc Ultra, to have the wider, higher sound-stage.

The same applies to surrounds, the 300s with more directional drivers outperforms the 100s for Atmos. Pairing 300s with the Beam gen 2 might be a good option for better Atmos sound if an Arc isn't an option.
