I have 2 1SL speakers for rear, a Sub (gen3) and a Beam (gen1) connected to my TV via the panasonic HDMI port 2 (as per the manual).  I can get Dolby Digital 5.1 showing on the S2 app when playing through the TV apps (Netflix, Prime, etc) and also from 5.1 sources from my NAS but not from any other source connected to the TV.  Tried Netflix through my Virgin box app and 2.0, same program via TV app on Netflix 5.1DD.  How should i connect the Sonos setup to my TV to enable other sources such as Virgin box, blu-ray player, etc to also pass the 5.1 sound to the Sonos setup, thanks in advance

The connection between your TV and the Beam is the same as you already have.  I suspect that you will need to change the Audio settings for your TV External Sources.  What make and model TV do you have?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.  On your TV Settings please select Menu>Sound>SPDIF and try Auto and PCM

hi, thanks for coming back.  Checked and there is no SPDIF option on that menu and also because the HDMI port 2 (Earc) is being used all the sound options on the table are greyed out except the headphone volume option.  I suspect that as everything via the TV services (NAS connection and in TV apps) is fine then it must be something to do with the other HDMI ports on the TV???

This TV is a decade old, it is quite likely it only passes DD 2.0 from HDMI for external sources. A very common limitation when HDCP was new and interpretation of the rules was variable when it came to optical out.

You need to free up that ARC port for the Beam, or get a new TV.

Thanks, sort of leans to why the other connected devices on other HDMI ports wont pass through a 5.1 signal.  The Arc port is being used for the beam hence services directly in the TV (Apps, etc) work fine.
