I am trying to connect my home theater system…arc, two Sonos surround and a sub 4. They are grouped.
I just connected tv and the direct tv genie. The remote doesn’t work for sound.

What tv make and model do you have? Have you connected Arc to tv on an eARC connection?

Not if the TV box uses CEC to communicate with your TV - or if it’s remote uses infrared rather than Bluetooth/Wireless link to the box.

If the direct tv box has CEC, then enable it in its settings and that will allow its genie remote to control the volume of the soundbar. Otherwise if it’s an infrared remote (not Bluetooth etc.) then go through the TV setup in the Sonos App… note though it only works for infrared remotes. Your best option though is to use CEC (if available).
Although it’s been a few years since I was a DirecTV customer, I had to program my DirecTV remote to control my TV. The TV then sends the volume commands via HDMI to the Sonos, using CEC (HDMI-ARC or eARC)
When I had a PLAYBAR, I had to use the IR on the DirecTV remote to control the P.LAYBAR directly, which was just a matter of ‘training’ the Sonos software to recognize it.
