Controlling volume on all speakers via tv remote

Seemingly 9 years later….I set up my Beam, Era 300’s, and 3 Plays.

Is there a way to group all of those together? My TV remote only controls volume for the beam group. I do not see a way to add the Play’s to the beam/300 group.

I see the same comments from 9 years ago. With responses that are a bit alarming. Paraphrasing, “Sonos usually takes a significant amount of time to update things in their system if there are a plethora of requests. This is not something that many request.”

Interesting.

My response to that thought. Not many typically want excellence if it costs them three to five times the average amount of money.

If there is no easy way to control the volume on my system with a TV remote, am I not living in the 80’s with several remotes in front of me? A good point is when the phone rings and I merely want to mute or lower the volume. In today’s world this happens to most of us often.

Why is it I cannot group my speakers in custom groups any way I see fit and control the group with the Beam with my TV remote? I’m stunned to find out that my beautiful Sonos speakers cannot be grouped, blended, belong to custom groups in any way fitting my sensibilities.

Maybe I am missing something? I did see these issues being raised 9 years ago. It’s not very comforting to know this has possibly been left as a tabled issue for almost a decade. I was really looking forward to double or triple the current Sonos system but this definitely gives me something to think about.

Any suggestions? Please do not suggest I am less than if I want a configuration that doesn’t fit your needs. What I simply want is to be able to have a Beam group and add 2 Era 300’s coupled with my 3 Plays so I can control my speakers, in the app with the same EQ, Surround, and audio adjustments, and control the volume with my TV in that group.

I personally think there are a ton of people feeling the same way.

Why?

My wife could care less about learning any of this tech. When she turns the volume down, she wants it down. How am I supposed to tell her we need more Sonos? She’s going to laugh in my face, literally.

Please help.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, there is no way to control ‘grouped’ rooms with a TV remote. It only affects the ‘Home theater’ room.  You must use the Sonos controller, or buttons on each Sonos to control the ‘grouped’ rooms.

I'd like this too but getting all the TV and other related manufacturers to change the basic specifications on how the TV's remote works seems unlikely.

I think the CEC spec would need changing, something that Sonos and all other home theater device manufacturers in this space adhere to. And specifically, when the TV is ‘off’, I’m not sure how the commands would be sent to Sonos, since there wouldn’t be anything coming from the TV to tell Sonos what to do to other rooms.

All HDMI connected soundbars get their commands through the TV. When the TV is off this path is also closed. Whence your problem. You could try using voice commands to silence the system, but I use an IKEA Dirigera remote (you need a hub too) to silence the system when I’m playing music while I’m working from home. IKEA and Sonos parted ways though, so I’m not sure you can set this up like I did anymore.
