I am trying to connect a Samsung Smart Monitor to my Playbar. The monitor has an earc HDMI and HDMI connection while the playbar only has the optical/digital type connection. Is there a simple cable adapter that would connect the two? I read that the Sonos adapter works the other way to hook up a tv digital to a playbar hdmi but doesn’t work the other way round. Not sure if that’s true or not.
Any other work arounds or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Easiest way is to get a USB-to-optical adapter for your PC.

You’d probably want to get a regular HDMI switch type of device, that takes a standard HDMI signal and strips out the optical signal. Ignore the eARC output, those devices are substantially more expensive, if you can find one that transfers to optical.
Something along the lines of this, although that is merely an example, there are dozens, and you should choose your own. The number of inputs might be important, but the optical output is key.
You’re correct about the polarity of the Sonos adapter, it takes an optical input, and creates an HDMI output, and not the other way.
