Hi there,

I've got a question regarding my setup, in which I'm trying to integrate a projector, streaming device, HDMI audio splitter, and Sonos Amp. I can't get the Amp to recognize ARC input...

Devices:

  1. Viewsonic PX701-4K projector (2x HDMI input, only 3.5mm output)

  2. Apple TV 4K (have also tried Xiaomi Box S)

  3. FeinTech VSP01222 HDMI splitter (2x HDMI Input, 1x HDMI output, 1x HDMI ARC output)

  4. Sonos Amp

The idea is simple, basically like illustrated in the screenshot I found on Google. Connect Apple TV to splitter, send ARC output to Amp, send regular HDMI to projector. But like I said, the Amp won't recognize ARC input.

The one thing I'm not sure about is if all my cables are at least HDMI 1.4, which I believe is the minimum required for ARC. But seeing as 1.4 was first released in 2009, I'm assuming this isn't the issue.

I've also read about using an HDMI splitter with Optical Out, combined with a (Sonos) HDMI ARC to Optical adapter, to connect to the HDMI-ARC port on the Amp.

Any ideas? Maybe it's an app issue?

Hi @rogierknoops, welcome to the Sonos Community!

We don’t support using HDMI splitters with our products as they can cause issues that we’re unable to troubleshoot. However, after looking through our community, I found the following thread:

While this is for connecting a Sonos Beam to a projector (and the picture diagram in it also shows a Sonos Arc), the setup process is the same.

One of our users noted that you’ll first want to connect the Amp to a TV with a HDMI ARC/eARC connection, then follow the steps in the Sonos App to configure the Amp as front TV speakers. Once that’s done, you can connect the Amp back in the configuration you have and it should work. You’ll find more threads on the community about this if you have a search around, but the thread I linked should have the information you need.

I hope this information helps!

That FeinTech VSP01222 only has ARC pass though.  It doesn’t extract the ARC channel for use by the audio device connected to the FeinTech, you would need to connect the audio device to the TV.

The FeinTech device you would need in order to extract the ARC audio and send it directly to the Amp is the following: Feintech VAX04101

Hi @Jamie A, thanks for the response!

One thing to note about the proposed setup is that I don’t have a TV… So using one to setup HDMI ARC before switching to the projector is a no-go… The post also references the HDfury Arcana, which I’ve seen mentioned earlier as a solution for my setup. Although apparently there the move is also to first connect it to a TV with ARC. I wonder why?

The solution I’ve come up with in the meantime is to connect my streaming device to an HDMI extractor with optical output (this one: https://amzn.eu/d/1qPnosK). Then connect the Sonos Optical Audio adapter, with an HDMI cable going into the Amp. Maybe you could tell me if this will work? :)

Could'nt you set up the Feintech or Arcana on someone else's TV?

As long as you are using an Amp using the extractor could work. For use with an ARC or Beam (Gen 2) you'd miss Atmos.

I’ve since solved the issue using the solution I mentioned earlier:

Connect streaming device to an HDMI extractor with optical output, and then use the official (and seemingly only) Sonos Optical Audio adapter to connect to Amp via HDMI.

So basically skipping ARC altogether.

Thanks for the help all!
