TCL tv not connecting to soundbar 1st gen

Best answer by Airgetlam

Your account information suggests a PLAYBAR. TCL seems to pop up frequently as having issues. I’d be tempted to first reboot the TV itself, by unplugging it from the wall for two minutes, then plugging it back in. Once that’s done, I’d suggest checking the TV for updates from TCL, and then flipping the remote settings from RF to IR, which the PLAYBAR needs to function. Once that’s done, open the Sonos controller, and run through the setup option for TVs, which should make the PLAYBAR recognize the IR based remote. It won’t ever recognize an RF remote, it doesn’t have the capabilities.

Soundbar 1st gen doesn’t tell us anything. Do you mean the PLAYBAR, the PLAYBASE, the Beam, the Beam gen 2, the Ray,  the Arc, or the Arc Ultra?

Have you contacted Sonos Support to discuss it?

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

As a note, there was only one generation of most of the Sonos soundbars, with the exception of the Beam, which has two.

Thank you Airgetlam, appreciate you taking the time. I tried the TV reboot and adjustment of the remote settings for the PLAYBAR to function - it’s still not synching which is a pain but think a HDMI arc extractor box might do the trick to convert the signal. It’s all a bit of a tap dance tbh. Thanks again

Note that optical is a one way transmission, and bandwidth restricted. It won’t ever carry volume commands.  In order to ‘connect’ your remote to the PLAYBAR,  you must change the remote to IR, rather than RF, and then pair it to the PLAyBAR, using the process outlined in the Sonos FAQ, to control the volume on the PLAYBAR.
