Can no longer “add sub”

Just documenting a (to me) new problem with the Sonos app (the old one) that I haven’t seen mentioned yet on this forum. I’d blocked app updates and had been using the old app for as long as I could and today I lost the ability to move my sub from one “room” (my TV / beam / surrounds) to another (my play 5 / turntable). The sub is on and plays - you just can’t move it to a new location. 

(I have one sub which I use to play vinyl with a play 5 and then when I watch tv / stream [in the same physical room] I move it to the new Sonos room]

I’ve tried searching this forum and I’ve a seen a bunch of different variations in this question but I can’t tell which one is actually my problem but more importantly what the answer might be.
 

 I’m wondering if any folks have this problem as well, and if anyone has it who is using the new app. I’m trying to figure out if I need to bite the bullet and just update the app to make the problem go away, or if it is another issue.
