I have the Symfonisk gen 1 and have just bought a Beam gen 2. Would it be possible to buy a Simfonisk gen 2 and pair with my gen 1 as rear surrounds? Or would I have to find an old gen 1 second hand to pair?

Yes, Gen 1 and Gen 2 can be stereo-paired or used as surrounds. AIUI they must be on the S2 app to do so.
