Since the Roam speakers can’t be configured as surrounds, I’m not sure quite what your system setup is. But to get surround sound, a pair of Era 100’s, for current products, or a pre-owned pair of Ones will do the job.

Instead of. Add the Eras to your system. Then in the settings section, Add Surrounds to the Beam. 

Many thanks for that.....probably too expensive for my budget though....would one Era 100 suffice.?   It will be difficult to sell on my 2  Roam speakers.in hindsight I should have asked the question on this site instead of asking the outlet where I purchased the Soundbar... they advised the Roam for surround sound but it's not the answer.thanks again..

Surround sound requires two like model speakers.  You cannot add a single speaker as surrounds.

A pair of pre-owned Ones would work well.

Since this is a Sonos sponsored website, we’re not supposed to drop links to third party sales, but you could look for used equipment at any reputable resales site, or even ‘new, in box’ at your local retailer. For surrounds, you’ll just need a like pair, such as Ones, or Era 100s. They just can’t be battery powered (mobile). 

I try to stay away from asking for sales advice from retailers. Unfortunately, as you’ve found, they often aren’t terribly familiar with the product, and much more interested in meeting sales goals.

For what it’s worth, resales of Sonos devices tends to be at or near full price, you still may be able, with some effort on your part, to recover much of the money you spent on your Roam’s, if you’re past the ‘return’ date at the store.

am interested in getting 2 Era 100s to work as Surround sound with my TV/ Soundbar.

Then the Roam speakers can be used to listen to music (at the same time) though my partners phone synced with the Roam 2s.

my question  is can all 4 speakers be on the Sonos App at same time and work as mentioned above?

Yes, indeed. Although the two Era 100s will appear in the same Sonos ‘room’ as the Beam as surrounds for it. The Move would be a separate ‘room’, and for music playback. You can choose, if you want, to group them. 

My preference, when playing music on my soundbar, is to set the surround settings in the app to have them play the music in ‘full’ rather than ‘ambient’. You may want, if you ever do this, to try both ways, and see what you prefer.
