When I try to set up trueplay on my Beam Gen 2, I encounter the error message “lost speaker” on the very first step. I have reinstalled the app, tried two different iPhones (XS and 11), restart the Beam, did a factory reset, and reset my WiFi connection to no avail. The WiFi connection to the Beam seems stable, I am able to stream music without issue.

Any insight on what might be the issue or what else I can try would be most appreciated.

Under the Beam’s settings, make sure you have Wi-Fi enabled.

The WiFi is enabled. Unfortunately I don’t have an option to run an ethernet cable to the beam, the app won’t allow me to disable the WiFi.

All functionality / controls work perfectly normal, for whatever reason it’s not letting me set up trueplay.

I just moved my beam to my office so that I could connect directly to the router via Ethernet cable. Trueplay still gives me the message “lost speaker” at the end of step one.

Does this eliminate connection as the issue?

As a side note, on my initial set up for the beam (and even after factory reset) the app asks me to set up a Sonos arc in addition to the beam. Of course I ignored the request for the arc. I don’t own an arc or any other Sonos product other than the Beam. Is this normal?

You might have a defective Beam. I would contact Sonos Support:

Thank you GuitarSuperstar, I wish it weren’t true but I am starting to think the same.

I Have the exact same problem.

Gone through replacement process. The 2nd Baem I got also have the exact same problem.

I think something wrong with software conpatibility with my set up.

If you don’t mind me asking, what router are you using? I am using TP Link Deco AX5700, which gave me unrelated issues in the past. I half suspect it’s a conflict with my router that  I don’t quiet understand. I have another Beam on the way. I will report back if I encounter the same problem again.

It was a free router from internet provider..

I think if it is so much of the problem. Why dont they put this feature auto like that in roam and move.

I read from forums and found out that it is a hit or miss. If you re lucky you will have it setup successfully easily. If you missed it no matter what you do, it would not go success.

Just a follow up. Got a new Beam 2 unit and trueplay worked without issue. Seems you guys were right, the first Beam 2 unit was faulty/defective.
