Beam Gen 2 Popping/Crackling On Video Start/Stop

Hi all,

I recently replaced my Beam Gen 1 with a Gen 2 and, since then, I have noticed a popping/crackling sound whenever I start and stop videos on my Apple TV. I observed this behavior in Netflix and Prime. This issue did not happen at all with my Gen 1, and all of the equipment and chords are the same.

Equipment Settings

Apple TV 4K, Model A1842

Video > Format > 4K SDR
Video > Match Content > Match Dynamic Range > On
Video > Match Content > Match Frame Rate > On
Audio Format > Change Format > Off
Audio Format > Dolby Atmos > On

Sony BRAVIA XR A80J

Audio > Sound mode sync > On
Audio > A/V sync > Auto
Audio > eArc mode > Auto

Same issue here with a Samsung Frame 2022, Apple TV 4K, and a Beam 2. Has anyone found a resolution other than turning off Dolby Atmos on the Apple TV?

Back again two years later.

I still have the same TV, but I’ve upgraded my Apple TV to the latest model and I now have an Arc. I am having the same exact issue that I had before. I believe the popping/crackling sounds occurs when the audio format switches, especially to/from Multichannel PCM.

I thought I’d check in here to see if anyone has had any luck on resolving this before I post a new thread.

I have this same issue. Pops/crackles when audio starts on most apps on my apple tv 4k (2021). Easiest way to reproduce it by scrolling the Netflix app UI and it pops when a preview starts about 50% of the time. Disabling earc on the tv improves things, but I shouldn’t have to do that. Seems to be an issue on the apple tv as the tv’s onboard apps dont have this problem. Setup below.
