Audio Passthrough issues with Sonos Arc and Samsung TV

Anybody have experience connecting a Samsung TV to the Sonos Arc via ARC port from the TV to the soundbar.

On the amsung TV there is meant to be a setting in the HDMI audio out to set it to passthrough to allow the audio source (Sky box) to be routed through the TV without processing straight to the soundbar.

This setting is just not there.

Ive rebooted everything to initiate the handshake from the TV to the soundbar but no luck.

Anyone else seen this ?

Any updates available for the TV?

Does the TV's internal guide show the setting and how to get to it?

TV fully updated to latest SW.  I spoke to Samsung support. They said when the TV detects an external HDMI source the ‘passthrough’ option appears in the menu. It definitely doesn’t.

What external HDMI source are you using?

Does powering everything down, disconnecting Arc and external input, powering up the TV, wait a minute, connect and power up the Arc, then the same for the external device help?

I don’t know what Samsung TV you have but if there is a HDMI eArc port available then connect your Arc to it via HDMI cable. In your TV sound menu enable whatever Samsung calls its CEC variant.

Connect your Skybox to another HDMI port as the source port for AV.

External source is a Sky Box. Ive tried the power down routine. Didnt help. I may try again though.

TV is an UE55MU8000. Doesnt have eArc only regular Arc.  I have Sonos connected to the Arc port on the TV.. The CEC is also switched on.

My research on your TV suggests you use HDMI 3 for the Arc. Make sure CEC is turned on.

Ive tried it in HDMI port 3 and also port 1. No luck.

I’m out of ideas…but here’s one more….

There should be an option in the TV sound menu that tells it to direct sound to external speaker(s). Do you see that option? That is a different setting as opposed to pass through.

Why do you insist on wanting pass through? Shouldn't your combination just work without?

Nope. If I want DD+ (from Netflix say). I have to manually set it up every time from the TV menu as when you then revert to something not DD+ the TV reverts back to PCM audio (not even just plain old DD). So then yu have to fiddle about with the menus to get it back to DD.

Samsung say ‘pasthrough’ is supported where you dont need to worry about this. The audio signal in what ever format is just routed to the sonos Soundbar for decoding.

I recommend waiting at least two minutes before restoring power and an additional minute before connecting the TV to ARC. Allow some additional time for ARC and TV to exchange details before connecting SKY.

While not likely, I can imagine an ancient HDMI cable, dragged out of a junk box, will not pass required communications. Make sure that the cables are fully seated in their socket. There have been a few reports of beefy HDMI plugs not fully seating.
