Arc Ultra TV volume issue

I am trying/hoping to set up a new Arc Ultra on a Samsung TV, so the TV remote operates the TV volume automatically.  The Samsung TV is a bit older, so it does not have an ARC HDMI port.  So I purchased the optical adapter to set up the Arc.  I switched to “external speakers” on the TV, but the TV remote volume is not talking to the Arc.  Is there anything that can be done about this?  I don’t want to have to use the app to control the volume. Is there a stand alone remote I can purchase or is there something else I can look into that would make the TV and the Arc work together?

If you’re using the optical port, you’ll need to switch your remote to work via IR, and not the normal method. Check you TV’s manual on how to set that up, or possibly search the Sonos FAQs. This means you’ll also need to adjust (as I suspect you have) all the devices feeding your TV to ensure their max setting is Dolby Digital, which is the most an optical cable can carry.
