is it possible to use Connect or Connect/Amp to make this happen? Can Gen1 connect to Arc via the app to do this ?

Arc to Sonos Connect for 3rd party rear speakers?

If you want to add a pair of passive speakers as surrounds to the Arc, you can either use the Sonos Amp or Connect:Amp (Gen 2) to power those speakers. The Connect:Amp (Gen 1) is not compatible with the Sonos S2 app.
The Connect cannot be used to power passive speakers.

You can wire a pair of passive speakers to the Sonos Amp and the Arc will connect to the Amp wirelessly.
