Third party subwoofer with Amp

So I'm considering ditching my Sonos Sub. Without TruePlay it sounds like mud in my room (thank you Sonos for not facilitating TruePlay on Sub without a soundbar, more money down the drain).

I'll probably get a high quality, 12 inch subwoofer and connect to the Amp's subwoofer out.

If I do this, what kind of control will I have in the app as compared to Sonos Sub? Will I still have crossover setting? Sub volume?

According to this article, you should be able to control the subwoofer’s output level and the crossover frequency when connected to the Amp:
