Hi, not sure if this has been asked before but I wanted to check on placement for surrounds.

We have our couches to the left and right of the TV a few feet away. We dont have a couch facing the TV directly. I have room behind the couch to the right to place surrounds on a stand. Would this work or will I not get that immersiveness as I'm not directly in front of the TV?

Surrounds should be on stands (or furniture) to the left and right of the seating area, placed at ear height, turned slightly inwards. You will however naturally get a slight bias towards the surround speaker you are nearest to, but I sit closest to one of my surrounds and still have an excellent immersive experience.
If it’s mostly just you watching TV, then run Trueplay from your usual seating position and it will look to compensate for you not being directly in front of the TV.
