Sony UBP-X800 does not have an option to force usage of Dolby Digital 5.1, unlike the now discontinued Samsung BD players.
Is there any chance of getting someone at Sonos to talk to the guys at Sony, asking them to add that option to their current range of BD players?

Sonos, either that or please implement DTS support. Right now there is no BD player on the market that can reliably provide surround sound to your Home Theatre "solution".

Sonos is unlikely to have as much sway as a letter from you. Sonos isn't a consumer of their product. I'm sure Sony would give more weight to a request from someone who actually spends money with them, something that Sonos does not do.

Who knows, with luck they already have a relationship with Sony and they can help sorting this out.
I posted on the Sony forums too.

I've been thinking of doing that twittering thing to get onto Panasonic though I'd have look at how it works. It's a bit more public I'm thinking.

Xbox can emit DD 5.1 for Blu-rays. also the newer ones can play UHD BDs for good measure. (Well except for the disc-less version).

Does it play 3D BDs?
Does it have a fan?
How quiet is it?

Yes
It does, but it wont kick in for BD playback. Gears of War 4k on the other hand...
Silent for BD playback. Even when playing Gears its pretty quiet. It is a miracle of thermal engineering.

Does it play 3D BD?

I got myself an Oppo UDP 203 which is great but costs twice as much as an XBox.
Maybe I could buy an XBox try it out and resell the Oppo.

3D is an optical encoding, the question would be what is the audio encoding on that Blu-ray?

Forum|alt.badge.img+3
Apologise for the confusion. It seems we have established the XBox does play BDs DTS audio tracks while providing DD5.1 audio output over optical which is compatible with our PLAYBARs.

Now I understand the XBox plays BDs and 4K-BDs.
I'm trying to find out if it plays 3D-BDs as I have a 3D TV and a collection of 3D-BDs to go with it.

Ah, my apologies. I didn't understand you were asking a question about the XBox, I though you were asking about a Sonos device.

Perhaps there's an XBox forum that could answer this question for you?

Xbox does 3D, yes. (I work on the Xbox team though not in this area).
