I just bought a Sony A80J, and need some guidance with the audio settings. I’ve got the Beam connected through the ARC port. It works but I’m not sure if I’m using the optimal settings. I assume I should have eARC mode on. On digital audio out I’m not sure if I should use one of the two Auto settings or use PCM. I’m not sure if I should have Pass Through Mode on. Finally, Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital Plus? Any guidance would be appreciated.
Hi
Welcome to the Sonos Community!
The Beam is not eARC compatible, so please have that option set to “disabled” or “off”.
For Digital Audio Output format, please choose Auto (I assume the first will be best, but you can try the second Auto if there are any issues). Pass-Through should be disabled - that way, any format that is not Dolby Digital will be converted into it (Pass-Through tells the TV to not even look at the audio and send it out regardless of format, which is not wanted).
Finally, Dolby Digital should be chosen, rather than Dolby Digital + (it may help to choose this on source devices and apps too). The Beam only supports PCM and Dolby Digital, and PCM is only stereo.
When testing, please make sure that the source media is recorded in surround sound (a movie or high-production TV will suffice - Old programmes, News or reality TV shows not so much).
Please also make sure that Bravia Sync is turned on.
If you still get no sound, unplug source devices from your TV and unplug the TV from power for 30 seconds. Leave the source devices unconnected until you get sound from the Beam. You may need to go through the TV setup process in the Sonos app again, from the Settings » System » name of room with Beam] page.
Our Sonos home theater product does not output sound help page may be of additional help.
Thank you very much! That is exactly what I needed. I really appreciate the help.
