Question

Sonos Beam 2 will not recognize eARC on TCL 98” QM7L Pro

I have a Sonos Beam Gen 2 that I am trying to hook up to a brand new TCL 98” QML7 Pro LED TV from Costco. They are connected by a 6 ft U-Green 8K Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cable rated for 48 Gbps, eARC, HDR-10, Dolby, and HDCP 2.2/2.3.

No matter what I try, I cannot get my Sonos system to recognize the eARC port on my TV. TV Setup on the Sonos App keeps saying “eARC not recognized”.

I have tried resetting the TV and the Sonos Beam 2 to Factory settings. I have tried turning CEC on and off. I have tried adjusting audio output from Auto & eARC. I have tried adjusting transmission mode to Pass-Through.

I don’t know what else to do to fix this situation.

I have a new huge top of the line TV and an amazing soundbar, but I can’t use them with each other. I’m stuck using my TV’s stock Bang & Olufsen built-in speakers. Which, while good for TV built-in speakers, it still defeats the purpose of my Sonos surround sound set up with 2 Sonos One’s and the Beam 2.

Sonos Community, please help me!

Are you using the original Sonos HDMI  cable? If not is the one you are using labeled as supporting eARC?

Is the cable full inserted, sometimes it takes a bit more pressure to fully seat.

Do you have another ARC or eARC TV to test the Arc on?

Sometimes the HDMI-ARC channel needs a forced handshake to get running.  Connect everything and turn on  CEC/HDMI-ARC in the TV menu.  Then, turn off the TV and disconnect power from the wall outlet for both the TV and the Beam.  Wait a few minutes, then plug in the power for both.  You must remove the power completely, just turning off the TV does not turn it off.  After powering back up, see if the handshake worked.

I will try this after resetting the TV and the Sonos Beam 2 back to Factory settings again.

Resetting is useless, and in the case of Sonos, it erases important diagnostic information that can be used to find a solution.

OK. Did not reset Sonos as you mentioned above. I did reset the TV and redid the setup. Turned on CEC. Then turned off power to both. Waited 10 full mins. Reconnected both to power. Tried setting up the TV in Sonos App again.

And — nothing. Your solution does not work, unfortunately. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Time to contact Sonos and/or the TV manufacturer.
