Hello,

I was wondering i could get a little advice please.

I previously had a Sonos playbar, set up with a optical cable that connected to an audio splitter box. On this box it has 3 hdmi inputs & 1 hdmi output. The PS5, media device & bluray player are the hdmi inputs - with the singular out put being a 4k epson projector. This set up has worked for me thus far with no issue with being able to change the hdmi’s whilst still having audio being sent to the playbar & associated sound surround. I must mention that the Optical cable is around 10-12m in length as its currently ran neatly around the room from place(soundbar) to place (projector).

Now i have changed over to the Sonos Arc, I am a little perplexed as to how to proceed & would appreciate any advice available.

Is there a way i can have the Sonos Arc connected to my already neatly ran optical cable & associated audio splitter box ?

Am i best running a fresh HDMI cable from the Sonos Arc? But, if so - would i need to removed one of my current HDMI’s to achieve this.

Or, Is there some kind of media/device manager (splitter box) that is available that i am unaware of that would allow me to run either of the previously mentioned  options?

Any inight relating to good quality splitter or device manager would be apprecaited because i feel that there is a limited information in this field. At least, where i’ve been looking thats the case.

Many thanks,

Aidan

Yes, Sonos makes an optical to ARC adapter. Restricts you to Dolby Digital, because of the optical cable, but that may not be a concern.

If (and I stress that) your projector has an ARC capable HDMI port, you could conceivably run an HDMI cable to the Arc…I’d be semi concerned about length, HDMI tends to be shorter (slightly) than optical. Worth doing some research.

There are several companies (based a lot on where you are) that can supply ARC splitters. For the non multi inputs, there is the HD Fury Arcana, the Feintech VAX04101k, and the OREI HDA-935. You can also order from those links from the companies directly, or check your local retailers for availability. Amazon may carry some, depending on location. At this point, there may be more manufacturers, I haven’t been keeping track. At least one of those companies has branched out into multi input splitters, you should investigate them.

Thank you for your quick reply, I appreciate this so much.

I am not especialy bothered about being restricted to Dolby digital as at this point i just want to find a solution that allows me to run my current set up. I am currently using my Arc for music & my Sonos Ray for running the optical into the set up for now which allows connection to the rest of the 3:1 (2 Sonos 5’s).

I dont believe the projector does have an Arc capable hdmi slot. It is a epson eh-tw7000.

I will research the companies and options you have provided and see if i ca n find a suitable remedy.

Right now i have an optical in cable running to an audio splitter box with three hdmi ins and one hdmi out. I am in the UK.

Thank you again.

Note; all the companies I listed provide an ARC or eARC solution. If you’re happy to stay with optical, there are lots of less expensive HDMI switches that have an optical output. I’d start on Amazon, see what you like, and then look for a local purveyor, if you prefer not to deal with Amazon.
