Dear community.

I am interested in the Sonos ARC and would like to install it according to the setup in my sketch below.

My TV (55 ") is attached to a cupboard wall. Underneath is a niche in which I want to install the soundbar. This niche is 55cm high and 47cm deep. And underneath of that, another 21cm high drawer.

My question is whether this will have a major impact on sound reproduction or acoustics?

Will the dolby atmos functionality still work properly? Or is it therefore not recommended to choose a soundbar with dolby atmos?

Is it an option to mount the soundbar a little lower in the niche to have a better soundquality (preferrably not)?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @T-Low, thank you for reaching out to us and welcome to the Sonos community. I appreciate you for your detailed post and for sharing your setup with us. Let help you with this.

The Arc has two up-firing speakers within it that sound best when positioned either on a tabletop, or wall-mounted below a TV. Also, Arc requires a minimum of 5.5 inches on the front and sides of it, with at least 2 inches between the backside of Arc and the TV when in a tabletop orientation. If wall-mounting, it is recommended to have a clearance of at least 5.5 inches between the TV and Arc. If you have rear speakers or surround, it should be on the ear level and at least 2-3 feet away from the nearest wall.

You also need to re-evaluate your room like the walls, windows, floors and ceiling. Sound bounces on all hard surfaces in the room which have an impact on how the sound travel and affects the audio experience. HDMI-eARC is required to play lossless Dolby Atmos audio using the Dolby TrueHD codec on the Sonos Arc.

We can wait for suggestions and feedback from our Sonos community users about changing the height and changing the angle of the unit. You may also contact our Sales specialists through phone or email for further assistance.

Please feel free to reach out in the future if you have any other questions.

You're always welcome here.

Hi @T-Low

If I’m viewing your diagram correctly the Arc will be mounted underneath the cupboard? If so that setup is incorrect for any sound bar especially the Arc.

Sound bars should ideally be forward of the viewing screen. That positioning keeps the dialog anchored to the screen and better sync’s the action.

The Arc not only has front firing speakers but upward firing as well (not to mention the side firing speakers). In your diagram the upward firing speakers would for all intent purposes be rendered mute.

I suggest you view the video here under the title Learn More About The Arc to understand the proper placement of the Arc for optimum enjoyment.

Cheers!

Thanks for the swift replies!

Would it be an idea to place the arc under the tv on the lower cupboard instead of wall mounting it according to my previous post?

See new sketch, both fix cupboards are indicated in yellow, I have indicated two (new) positions for the Arc - would this still be a kickback for soundquality and dolby atmos effect?

preferrably I would go for position 2 as its a cleaner setup in that room   (however I could just put the sonos arc to position 2 when not using it...)

Thanks for your feedback
