I currently have a Play:5 in my TV room. I am considering a Beam. I do not wish to buy another Play:5, or two of something else. Can I have the Play:5 as a rear non-stereo speaker working with the Beam?

Looks like you can't but it would be nice if the Play 5 was allowed to be a single rear speaker.

"You cannot combine a PLAY:1 and a PLAY:3 to function as surround speakers, or add a single speaker to achieve surround sound."
