Remote Suddenly Not Working on Samsung TV

Hi,

I am aware that there are multiple Samsung remote issues on these forums, but I believe mine may be distinct. Last night, my Beam suddenly stopped working w/ the Samsung TV. After factory resetting the beam, unplugging the TV for 60 seconds, and then setting everything up anew, it is working again. However, starting tonight, my remote (similar to the one pictured here) won’t control the TV volume (though the Sonos app will). This had worked fine for months and even did last night after I redid the setup. What’s especially strange is that when I hit volume up/down/mute on the remote, the normal popup that an “HDMI” volume change is underway pops up on the screen, so it is receiving some command, the volume just never changes. Any ideas?

Thank you for your help.

After our discussion, here is what Patrick from Sonos said:

“The IR commands are not hitting the Playbar from the One Remote, the range should not be a factor, however when you go to teach out device the IR commands, it fails.  If you are right on the unit (within 3 feet, it works).

For that, I would reach out to Samsung and see if they can program the remote to output IR and have third party optical connected sound bars pick up on it.  Might also be work a try setting the home theater device to Onkyo, Pioneer, anything besides Samsung and Sonos.  Then re-learn the remote programming through Sonos.2”.

I finally got mine to work following Patrick’s advice!  On your TV’s setup, If you go to “Source”, “Universal Remote”, and select Panasonic it works after you go to the Sonos app and replace your remote setup.

I called Samsung and didn’t get anywhere.  They asked for my personal info: Name, Address, Phone, email, serial no, and then put me on hold.  She came back and said there are no reported issues.  I asked to have my issue reported into their system in hopes others will report this problem as well then perhaps they might address this problem.  She put me on hold, and after ½ Hr.  I hung up.

I believe this problem stems from the last Samsung update and hope their next update resolves this problem.

Thank you Patrick from Sonos!  He’s a tremendous asset to Sonos and our community!

Same. The app is the only option. Let me know how you get on with them.

That’s great Larry

Very strangely mine simply started working again, no update, no change in settings. Just randomly started working again.
Very bizarre

Goodmorning,

I have te same issues as you all discribed above.

But what I discovered is that if I go very near to the Playbar and point
almost directly to the Playbars ‘eye’ on top of the Playbar all the remotes just work.

So on a distance of 4-5 meters when the Playbar is standing no adjustment can be made.
If I lay down the Playbar on its front ( so that the eye is pointing to you ) the volume can easily be adjusted.

So to me it somehow looks like that the Playbar is looking for a stronger signal or something.
This all happens with my Ziggo ( Cable TV ) remote but also the Apple TV remote.

I’m going to try to place a small mirror behind the eye in normal standing and see what will happen. ← Nothing happens.

If the Sonos is paced normal standing and I’m very close with the remote than offcourse it also works!

Sonos IR Problem  ←  Youtube example ( half way video the Playbar is down on his front ).

Regards,

I have same issue. It suddenly stopped working. I can see the sound volume pops up on screen but without volume changing. Furthermore, I can't use my phones up and down volume to control the volume regardless of I'm listening to music or watching TV(I was able to it initially). I can see A majority of users are experiencing this issues, so my question is what's Sonos doing to fix it? After all you pay a premium price so you would expect to get a decent product. And no it’s not Samsung-TVs fault because I own top of the model LG Oled CX 2020 with e-arc.

Mine isn’t working anymore either. I can only control sound with my iphone! My Samsung universal remote stopped working with it.

I just had my remote suddenly not working after years of faultless performance. I initially assumed it was Sonos bricking old hardware. I tried repeatedly trying to get the play bar to relearn the remote without success.

It turns out it was the HTC Vive Virtual Reality dual room transmitters/ base stations that were interfering with the Samsung remote IR signal. I turned off the VR base stations and all went back to normal working.

I apologize for the cussing I gave to Sonos, but hope this info might help others with this particular setup of VR transmitters/are stations or make folks think of what else may be affecting IR signal in the room.
