Playbar with Connect:Amp for surrounds

With the latest version, is it still a requirement that both the Playbar and Connect:Amp be wired to the network when using the amp as surrounds for the Playbar?

My understanding is that both the Connect:Amp and the Playbar must be wired directly. Either to a Router, or between them. I believe that's stated in the FAQ. In fact, it's item # 1 in "Setting Up"

I don't believe using a Boost, unless both of the were physically connected to it, would make a difference. Basically, you must have a wired connection between the two speakers.

If it really is that expensive to connect the two together, I'd give very strong consideration to replacing the rear speakers with a set of Play:1s. I know that's not what you're wanting to hear, but there it is.

    I share Bruce's doubts but......

You can also make the connection by wiring to a single network switch. There was a thread a few days ago in which (if memory serves me correctly) someone said they had got this working by wiring both units to a range extender even though the extender was wireless to the router.

So.. it seems to me theoretically possible that if you had a Sonos unit wired to your router, and then a Boost or Bridge wireless but with both the PB and C:A wired to it, it might work. Or you might just waste your money. I'm not confident about this. But then Sonos have a money back guarantee..... And second hand Bridges are pretty cheap.

This assumes that you could physically get both wires to the same place. I don't think just wiring the Playbar to a Boost would work.

Or just try a range extender??

Don't blame me if it doesn't work!

    Thank you @John B and @Airgetlam

I guess there is some food for thought there. Ill see how I can cheaply test these options.

Would be good to hear if anyone else had a similar experience to mine.
