Play 3 or Play 1 for 5.1? Do you need sub with play 3?

I currently have a playbar and two older play 3s that work great in other places in the house.
First question: should I use these Play 3s as the rear speakers with the playbar or purchase to play 1s?
Second question: if I use the play 3s as the rears with my playbar is that enough base where I won’t need the sub?

Thanks!

Play:1. Bass will not be enhanced, because the surrounds only play the surround tracks, the bass (the '.1' of 5.1) is not routed to surrounds.

And just a note: The Play:3 is discontinued. No word on any replacement.
Thank you!
So there is no difference in using play 3s vs play 1s for rears?
Some tonal differences, but not performance-wise. Most consider the Play:1 more than adequate for surrounds.

You would likely hear the difference in full music mode but I'd think it would be minimal in surround mode.

I'd keep the 3s for where you can stereo pair them in another room and get new Play 1s for the surrounds.
