How to connect Beam with Virgin V6 TiVo Box

Just ordered a Beam for use with my Sony Bravia TV which has an HDMI-ARC port on HDM 1, I believe I connect the Beam to HDMI-ARC (1) and the V6 cable box to HDMI 2. If this is correct I assume I then select HDMI 2 to watch programmes via the V6 box and the sound will come from the Beam as long as I have enabled CEC on the TV? Can some kind soul confirm I have this right please.

I assume if I want to use the Beam as a music source without the TV I just operate it via the App without needing the TV switched on? My apologies if these are simplistic questions.
