Hello my lovely community.

I want to close the topic for compability of Atmos codecs, specifically for TrueHD, as there are still a lot of questions going on about it.

As owner of Sonos system (arc, 2x sub, 2x era 300) and pairing it with LG C3, Vero 4k+, AppleTV 4K and PS5. However LG C3 can’t passthrough TrueHD and I can’t watch my legal BR rips using Vero4k+ and Apple TV 4K. So here are the options what might be done:

  1. While using TrueHD content, accept downmix from 7.1 to 5.1 by Sonos (Multichannel PCM).                                                                                                                                 Pros: getting atmos effects, the cheapest option.                                                             Cons: lower bitrate for atmos.
  2. Look for an alternative streaming services for an atmos content such as Netflix or smiliar. Pros: you will get an an atmos effect via DD+, still cheaper option.                          Cons: not the highest bitrate though.
  3. Buy HD Fury Arcana.                                                                                                         Pros: getting the TrueHD with highest bitrate using any sources.                                          Cons: you need always to replug the cables if you a have more than 2 devices, costly option.
  4. Buy a new fancy AV reciever such as Marantz CINEMA 70s.                                            Pros: getting the TrueHD with highest bitrate from any sources, getting VRR and ALLM for gaming consoles, no need to switch the cables.                                                                Cons: very costly option.
  5. Buy a new Nakamichi DRAGON 11.4.6 Home Surround Sound System.                                  Pros: no headaches anymore with codecs and switch the cables, more channles, more power.                                                                                                                               Cons: THE MOST costly option.

Prove me folks, if I am worng.

Thanks.

You missed an option, buy a tv which supports pass through of all audio codecs you want to use. 😉probably cheaper than the Nakamichi depending on screen size. 😂

I’m guessing the Vera4k+ doesn’t support outputting atmos audio as Dolby MAT 2.0 unlike some other players and PCs which can send TrueHD Atmos audio as Dolby MAT 2.0

In all seriousness it sounds like you have bought the wrong equipment for the audio formats you want to play.

  • TV which doesn’t support pass through of the codecs you want to use.
  • Surround system which only has hdmi eArc, so relies on the TV for audio streams.

How do you deal with Blu-rays that only use DTS-MA rather than Dolby or do you not own any?

Apart from using a service that uses supported audio streams the hardware options are limited.

  • Replace the Vera with something that can output truehd atmos audio as Dolby MAT 2.0 is potentially the cheapest option.
  • Then a HD Fury with an hdmi switch connected to it’s input, which will likely create it’s own set of issues
  • Then it’s either Tv or surround system replacement that supports the audio formats you want to use or can be connected to directly.

Probably not what you want to hear, but unless LG decide to add the pass through, the TV is your main problem.

HDFury Arcana and a Roofull 4K HDMI switch ( as recommended by users on the HDFury Discord) would be the route to go, cheaper than a new tv or system.

Orei HDA=935 it is a EARC audio extractor and HDMI switch in one unit, cheaper than the HDFury and  has Dolby TrueHD, DTS  etc however word of caution this unit does not use the 5.1/7.1 LPCM it says it can and converts 5.1 LPCM to Dolby Digital and 7.1 LPCM to Stereo PCM. I have contacted Orei about this and they have confirmed no LPCM support and will amend the website, still has not happened though.

By the way, my LG G1 (not C3) is supporting pass through, at least it says here - https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/g1-oled

Same with Vero4k+

It is supporting Dolby Atmos and DTS:X

It says here - https://www.avforums.com/reviews/osmc-vero-4k-media-streamer-review.13857/ th

So, technically it should work ?

The LG C3 supports Dolby TrueHD pass through. I play Dolby TrueHD audio and Dolby Atmos audio (via Dolby TrueHD) all of the time from Blu-ray discs on my LG C3 and Sonos Arc setup.

Your problem is you are streaming through your Apple TV which doesn't support Dolby TrueHD. I know the Nvidia Shield and Amazon Fire TV Cube supports TrueHD, but I’m not sure if they support it through Vero4k+

You are right. Even if LG G1 is supporting pass through atmos but it is still showing PCM 7.1

Same results with HD Arcana…

The Apple TV 4K uses Dolby MAT so it will convert all 5.1 and 7.1 audio to multichannel PCM. If you want Dolby TrueHD audio, use a different streaming device.

But I was using Vero4k+ when it showing PCM 7.1

What app are you using to stream the Blu-ray rips on the Vero4k+? Have you double checked the settings on the device? Is the Digital Sound Output setting on the TV set to Pass Through?

GuitarSuperstar, it is actually OSMC (Kodi) media player running on Vero4+ device.

On OSMC, is there an “Allow passthrough” and “true TrueHD capable receiver” setting? If so, what are they currently set to?

And is the Digital Sound Output setting on the TV set to Pass Through?

Yes, you can choose passthrough the audio in the menu however regarding the true TrueHD capability i couldn’t find information anywhere.
