Hi there! Just got a Beam. I understand to get sound to it from my fire stick I need to split the signal and send to the projector and then the optical/hdmi converter. I’ve never used an optical cable before and I can’t figure out if the long cable needed should have two different ends (a male/female) or the same end?

That depends on what the receiving devices need (projector and optical/hdmi converter). Only you know this. Most devices seem to have a female connection, so most optical cables have male connections on both ends.
