I am planning to set it on top of a media cabinet that has a somewhat heat sensitive finish. I want to see if this device typically would run hot, or if I should definitely plan on mounting it to the wall.

What is ‘hot’ mean? Have you looked at the operating temperatures that Sonia has published?
Thanks! I just mean Hot to the touch, and enough to melt or scorch a waxy finish or leathery finish on the top of my media cabinet.

Its designed to be place on normal cabinets, but it is an electrical device, there is some heat generated by the use of that electricity. I would not say it is hot, but that’s my opinion.
