I setup surround sound several years ago with a Sonos Playbar and 2 x Sonos Play 1s and wanted to replace one Play 1 with the Sonos One to use with Airplay specifically but also Alexa if I wanted. Alas, upon purchase, I have found they are not compatible and I’m unable to do this. Somewhere in your documentation you should mention that it is not possible to pair speakers, particularly as I wasn’t even aware that the Play 1 and Sonos One were different beasts. A beast indeed.

I’m surprised that you didn’t think they were different since they have different names. The web site does say “Pair two Sonos Ones...”
However, there is a third party app that will let you mix the One and Play:1.
