Hi. The device you have isn’t what you need at all. You need an HDMI switch / audio extractor, and it must have a digital optical output. The one I linked was a random choice from many similar devices.
You need the digital optical output because the Beam can only process an HDMI-ARC signal, and so an HDMI signal will produce silence. Having an optical audio output allows you to use the converter that comes with the Beam to produce the required HDMI-ARC signal.

What are you trying to achieve with this setup? If you’re just looking to have the Chromecast audio come from the Beam you can hook it up directly to your TV, no need for any other connections.
+1Problem is, my plasma tv is old. it cuts off the optical when an hdmi is plugged in, doesn’t have hdmi arch. So, yes, i wan’t chromecast, but was trying to get it to work by using a splitter, one to the tv, one to the bar. Is that possible?
Do you know another inexpensive way?
I tried using a HDMI splitter and sending the chromecast to the splitter, which then routes to the TV a HDMI port and to the beam.

Unfortunately I don’t know exactly what device you would need in this scenario, since the Beam only has 1 input and that’s already hooked up to your TV, so there wouldn’t be another input to directly connect the Chromecast to.
An HDMI switch that has optical pass-through may work, but we don’t generally recommend the use of those devices due to us not being able to guarantee full functionality with Sonos.
I think we’ll have to wait for other members of the community who have similar setups to jump into this thread to recommend specific products.
+1unfortunately, the beam hooking into my tv doesn’t work. because it’s not an arc input hdmi, no sound comes out of it. since it is 10 years old, it was made when optical was shut off for hdmi input. rather strange.
Short of buying a new TV, you could bypass the TV for audio using an HDFury Arcana device. Many users, me included, are using these on TVs that lack, for example, Atmos capacity. An HDMI switch would be needed to incorporate multiple sources. This would give you the equivalent of a full eARC connection.

Will Arcana work for the Beam, since it is ARC only, no eARC? it’s something that I’ve wondered about but never got around to asking HDFury.

You say you tried an ‘HDMI splitter’. What inputs and outputs did that have?
I think this sort of thing is all you would need. It would give you the option of adding other HDM|I sources in future if you wanted
