Can I connect a beam to a single Play:1 for TV?

Is it possible to pair the beam (in tv audio mode) with a single Play:1 for "semi-surround"? I don't need a second speaker for actual surround, I just want a play:1 near the couch, to enrich sound and make dialog a bit clearer/closer.

    No, surrounds must be bonded in like pairs.

    You could group a single Play:1 -- as a separate 'room' -- with the Beam, but the TV audio would be slightly delayed through it. Also, the Play:1 volume would have to be controlled independently of the Beam.
